JinHaiWan engine arm becomes MAN licensee

Shanghai: Zhoushan Zhongji Diesel Engines  Manufacture Co has joined MAN Diesel's global family  of licensees. The two companies signed a licence contract  for two-stroke diesel engines at MAN Diesel headquarters  in Copenhagen on Saturday 31 May.

Zhoushan Zhongji and JinHaiWan Shipyard Co are  both owned by Shanghai Zhouji Group Co, which is  currently expanding its activities to become one of China’s largest private shipyards. Zhoushan Zhongji Diesel Engines  Manufacture Co is situated on Zhoushan Island, south of Shanghai. It was established to ensure the supply of engines for JinHaiWan Shipyard and other shipyards in  Zhejiang Province, Southeastern China.

JinHaiWan Shipyard currently has an order backlog of 55 bulk carriers of between 80,000dwt and 176,000dwt, as well as about 30 large tankers. The new licensee will therefore concentrate on the production of larger-bore engines.  [06/06/08]
