Management change for Hindustan Shipyard

Mumbai: The Indian Union Government’s decision to transfer  management of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) from the Ministry of Shipping to the Ministry of Defence is likely to impact the type of work undertaken at the facility.

According to reports in local papers, the yard will concentrate on building vessels of strategic importance for the Indian Navy and would move away from commercial private sector contracts. The Ministry of Shippinghas been given approval "in principle” for construction of a new yard that would take on a more commercial role in the near future.  [24/12/09]
