SPP Shipbuilding books two newbuildings

Gyeongsangnam-do: South Korea's SPP Shipbuilding booked two 52,000 dwt newbuilding product carriers for a total of $73m from a US-based shipowner.

SPP Shipbuilding unveiled on Tuesday that the carriers are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2014.

The shipyard claimed that the ships are incorporated with eco-friendly features to reduce bunker fuel consumption by about 20%.

SPP Shipbuilding's latest contract win follows a confirmed order from Navios Acquisition of Greece for three MR2 product carriers of similar sizes to be built at a South Korean yard. The carriers are slated to be delivered in the second, third and fourth quarter of 2014, respectively.
